First published in 1984, Wombat Stew is a beloved Australian children's book written by Marcia K. Vaughan and illustrated by Pamela Lofts. The story follows a clever dingo who catches a wombat and decides to make wombat stew. Other Australian bush animals, including a platypus, blue-tongue lizard, echidna, koala, and emu, come to the rescue by tricking the dingo into adding various gross and unusual ingredients to the pot instead, ultimately saving the wombat in a humorous and engaging tale.
